Absence from school; If your child is ill and has to be kept at home please let us know as soon as possible. If illness occurs at school you or the person you have named will be contacted so that the child may be collected. When your child returns to school please confirm the absence (stating the reason) in writing, as this is required by the D.F.E.S (Department For Education and Skills). If for any reason it is necessary for you to remove your child during the school day (e.g. dentist, doctor, hospital appointment, etc) please inform the class teacher in writing and report to the school office to sign out your child when collecting him/her. At lunch times please inform the senior mid-day supervisor that you are removing the child. Child protection;Parents need to be aware that in the event of a member of staff suspecting that a pupil may have been deliberately harmed or neglected by his or her parents or carers, the Headteacher has a legal duty to inform the local Social Services Team Manager. If the Team Manager shares the school's concern, he or she will contact the Police to agree the best way of carrying out an investigation. The decision about when and how the child's parents or carers are informed of any investigation is made by Social Services and the Police, not by the school. We feel sure you will realise that these safeguards are necessary to ensure the welfare of all children and that referrals have to be made in all cases where harm to a child is suspected. Medication; If your child needs medication such as an inhaler please inform us so that arrangements for its safe keeping can be made. We do ensure that inhalers stored in this way are always available on demand. This system works well and is the best compromise we can offer to the conflicting recommendations regarding asthma inhalers. If your child needs to take any medicine during the school day (i.e penicillin etc) the medicine must be labelled with the name of the child and a form available from the office which must be signed by you giving permission for the school "first-aider" to administer any such medicine. From time to time accidents happen in the playground. Whilst the majority of these are dealt with by the school "first-aider". Whenever such accidents involve a bump to the head a note is sent home with the child to alert parents of the occurence. Please ensure that we have a telephone number in case we need to contact you urgently in the case of emergancy. Jewellery;Jewellery worn in school should be minimal and limited to a wristwatch. Chains and bracelets are not necessary. If your child wears earrings they should be studs. Rings or drops are not permitted as they can create a danger to both the wearer and others in the school situation. It is essential that any children ith earrings should be able to remove them themselves for P.E and games or have plasters provided by you to cover them. (It is a legal requirement of the 1974 Health and Safety at Work Act that no jewellery be worn for P.E and games). Lost Property; We do try to find and return lost property to its rightful owner. It would be helpful and much appreciated if all articles of clothing and footwear could be clearly marked for easy identification. Cycling to School; It is the policy of this school that children do not cycle to school as the heavy build up of traffic, both morning and afternoon is potentially very dangerous. The only exception to this policy is when a YEAR SIX child has obtained a cycling proficiency certificate and has requested permission to cycle to school which must be granted in writing. Car Parking;Due to the dangers involved it is not possible for parents to use the school car-park. This is reserved for authorised vehicles. Please help us improve this situation by using the Village Hall car park with consideration for other users. Children can then walk safely through the infant school playground and on to our premises. These are two authorised pedestrian entrances from Manor Road. Children and adults should use these and not walk through the staff car park as this shows a disregard for safety. We do appreciate the problems of parking but our main concern must be for the safety of our pupils.

Children who bring packed lunches are responsible for taking their own waste home with them.
